Gloria Giles Nault
Dr. Gloria Giles Nault is a member of a family called the Free Men of Color who, through helping the African immigrants from the Clotilda to resettle, helped to create Africatown, Alabama where they all harmoniously thrived together. Residing in Hawai'i, she enjoys a similar communal life as experienced in Africatown and reflects on the many stories, histories, and experiences that she heard as a child and gained throughout her education and research; these have also enlightened her own oral history projects. In her 2018 interview, Dr. Nault discusses the experience of growing up in a secure, close-knit community, the life-long lessons learned in Mobile County Training School, and shares a few stories that she enjoys retelling and reliving.
