Pastor Williams

Born in Brownsboro, Alabama – outside of Huntsville – Pastor Williams relocated to Africatown in 2006 to continue with his profession.  In his interview, he speaks to the historical significance of Aricatown, urging people from all across the country to experience the intimate community firsthand.  Apart from the typical duties of pastoring, he is one of the foremost members of the community to lead the fight against industry, in the interest of local people’s health and well-being.  Above all, Pastor Williams stresses the importance of altering perceptions around what it means to be black in America; he wants to see the people of Africatown treated as equal to the wealthier, predominantly white citizens of West Mobile.  In his words, America has written Africatown ‘a bad check’ that cannot be cashed due to insufficient funds. Yet he keeps the faith through prayer, and believes that with the Lord’s wish and through hard work, that the community can be substantially revitalized.
